Born to be WILD1001.TLB
« on: April 15, 2010, 07:07:07 AM »
I need help with this combat wilderness. Something is not right with the palette. My nice green Orks become gray and unattractive.

I have tried messing around with the color palette in Paint Shop Pro, applying the palette from another combat dungeons, but for some reason this also alters the basic colors of the picture.

Can someone help me with this?

Feel free to send me the PCX version of the wilderness, along with one of your goblin PCXs.  If all you've got for the wilderness is a drop-in TLB, send that with a goblin.

Be sure you're using my current address, and not the old AOL one.

Hmmm... I sent you an email shortly before I posted the message on the forum. Strange.

Anyway, different solution: I'll post the files here:

I was using the address from the mailing list.

My first look at your goblin shows that it does dip into the frame palette a little bit, but a wilderness shouldn't change those colors...

Will investigate the wild, next...

First test on the wild shows that it, too, uses the frame palette just a little bit...

The wild does stray from the orthodox combat icons palette in a few key colors.  I'll see about fixing it.

Here's a fixed PCX version of the wild.  Note particularly the last handful of colors (251-254) if you want to compare it to the problem version.

Your orc should work okay unless you've fiddled with the default frame and always palettes.

Here, tho, is a fixed version that uses only the combat icons palette.  (You may want to save this palette in your art proggie.)

Once again, thanks hans!  :) Everything works fine now.

I downloaded this combat wilderness from corhub, thinking that the color palette would be okay.

I've noticed that when you save a .PNG file, you can choose to have the palette optimized or non-optimized.

To work with FRUA, the palette must be non-optimized. Slot #'s are important.

On corhub, all the pics are .PNG's, so this is probably the reason why some pics don't work.

I've tested the pics that I'm converting and posting here as PNG's (in the "Pic of the Day"-thread etc.), and they all work when they are converted back to PCX. I'm glad my paint program doesn't optimize the palette automatically.
