PREVIEW: Oasis
« on: March 03, 2010, 11:15:47 AM »
Well, a little about me..
I'm a college student, so you can imagine how my free time is... ::)
I started this module about two weeks ago, and I've worked on it on and off.  The premise of the module, is the party wanders into the desert city Oasis, looking for adventure, and being situated in the middle of the desert keeps most adventurers from coming out, so there is work to be had.  The game revolves around the story of a cult of dark souls and their grip over the city, of course modified by the party.  The way i want this to turn out is that EVERYTHING that happens, the player has a choice what to do, this way making a more immersive role playing experience.  I plan on this being an epic mod, so it may be a while before it gets out.  What I'm having trouble with, however, is finding desert/Arabian themed Pics, wall sets, back drops, outdoor battle, etc etc, and I've looked quite a bit.  I would be gracious if anyone could give me some links or such on that note.

The adventure itself is based on a D&D 3.5 campaign i played with my friends for about a semester, and it seemed very entertaining, so i thought, why not make a mod of it?

Its not really very impressive to LOOK AT, not yet at least, so no screens, but hopefully if i get find some walls and nice backgrounds and such it will get that way.  :)

Its for a 4 player party, around lvl 3, and i'm expecting it to have a good 5-8 hour total play time, its still debatable

Frua is INDEED great.

Nice idea for a mod! I like the "arabian" setting.

Below are some arabian / desert themed pics that I already posted in the "Pic of the Day"-thread. There might be more in there.

Also try these zips from the UA file archive:

Sounds very cool!

I know there were Arabian type images scattered throughout the stuff i uploaded over the years.

As Ben says, Corhub is a great place to look for those.

Here are some desert backdrops. As with the other pics I've posted here, just convert them back to pcx to use them.

There are more on corhub under Miscellaneous Program Hacks --> Back Drops --> Desert

This zip contains a nice pic with some camels on a desert.

I've seem to run into a tad of a problem.
I run toolbox, and apply the hacks, but when i go to load up ckit, with uashell, none of them seem to have applied  :-\

Just applying them in TOOLBOX won't work. The files that TOOLBOX creates must be copied into the respective design folder.

Or maybe I misunderstand you. Could you describe what you're trying to do and how you do it?

The way I think it *should* work is this:

1. Apply your design with UAShell - make sure it is the right one (e.g. oasis.dsn).
2. Quit UAShell.
3. Run Toolbox and apply the graphic hacks (pics, backdrops etc.). Toolbox should copy them automatically to the folder of the design that was last applied with UAShell. Quit Toolbox.
4. Run UAShell and start your design (without worrying about CKIT - AFAIK CKIT has nothing to do with your graphic hacks).

Did you follow these steps and still don't find your new graphics in UA?

It never does that for me. I always have to copy the TLB files into the design folder by hand.

For me it works. Where does TOOLBOX put them then? And from what folder do you run TOOLBOX?
