The unofficial FRUA v1.3 patch is a backwards compatible "bugfix" which (when it's upgraded to semi-official, I suppose) can be applied to a "default" installation to do the following:

    * Copy protection bypass
    * Death by old age bugfix
    * Dungeon 36 do-only-once bugfix
    * River combat enabled
    * Thief Saving throws corrected
    * Various minor incorrect saving throws (comparing the saves to the 1st edition DMG) fixed
    * No animated pictures in text event bugfix
    * Treasure Pic 2 display bugfix
    * Temple healing for PCs with high CON scores bugfix

In my testing (so far), it can usually be added (pasted into) an existing diff.tbl with no problem, but there are probably some serious exceptions, such as Oriental Adventure modules, and any others where program events have been added or changed. (i.e. the Special Item event changed to the Special Ability event.)

In any case, if the author didn't design for it, it probably won't make a huge difference.
----------
CPIC.TLB is a revised library of monster combat icons based on results of the UA community's Survivor competition for combat icons.

MONST.GLB Update v1.0 is Darius Whiteheart's revised monster library. Among other changes, it appears to use the 2e monster thac0, so low-levels are a bit easier than 1e, and high levels a bit tougher. Most monsters subject to Charm Person have been corrected.

I think these are neat adds, but they're not really necessary to play the game.

I know of no file called TO.rar, but check out the pix to see if they're any good!  :D

(Show.exe from Dan Autery's TLB Utilities will display the TLB files, but you may have to run it through DOSBox if you're using Vista.)  :P

    * Dungeon 36 do-only-once bugfix

Does this also apply to the 200+ extra dungeons you get with GeoMove?

Nope. Just 36. Sorry.  :(

Okay.

Two more questions:

  • Which of these fixes are already working?
  • The way I understand this, v1.3 is not a patch that must be pre-installed, but you put it into the diff.tbl of a game, is this correct?

All of these fixes work.

The current diff.tbl can be added to a game, or pasted into an existing diff.tbl. It can also be used to create a "patched" default setup.

To me, the easiest way to "patch it in" is to:

  • Create a new UA installation
  • Drop the diff.tbl into a blank design and apply it with UAShell
  • Close UAShell
  • Delete the "Default.dsn" directory
  • Open UAShell

UA will now consider the modified ckit.exe to be the standard.

Note: I included this just in case anyone else wants to test the v1.3 patch. All it takes is playing designs (the more hacks, the better) in a patched version and posting any problems encountered.

Nice. :)

Where can I download v 1.3?
(sorry if this info has already been posted here, I just looked for the file on rosedragon and couldn't find it)

Could you describe these two bugs?

Unless there's been an update I'm not aware of, you can get it at the end of this thread.

I have a request.

Can someone put together an installer that will install UAShell, the 1.3 patch, and other important additions?

You mean a file that will automatically install those programs?

Yes. Once the user has installed FRUA, why not have a batch file or something that will install the extras? A configuration screen where people can check off the extras they want would be ideal, but even a simple scripted folder is better than this cumbersome process.

Hm, that exceeds my abilities, but maybe someone else can help?

I have the GOG installation of FRUA. I downloaded UAShell and extracted the files into the Unlimited Adventures folder. When I tried to run the .bat file, I got a message about being incompatible with Windows 64 bit OS.

Is there a guide to get UAShell up and running on a Windows 7 machine?

Is Dos-Box any help? It runs on Windows 10.
