I generally like the picture.

Just in case you want some critical response :D : The face of the character looks somewhat empty. Maybe this is intended? Furthermore, the pose is a little unclear to me - is the character dodging or afraid? I am not experienced with these 3D tools, so I cannot tell how much work you already invested and how difficult it is to add details... In the current state, it looks nice, but unfinished... If it is only a base for an icon, it is probably sufficient, but if you also plan to use this for a small or big pic, I would add some work.

Would fit nice, by the way, with the art of Manikus...

It is intended and it have some background story about it which I will have to writte, btw good thing about 3d art is that it is easy to form a scene and a character who can be used later at any time and even make a movie now, also some other things. The bad thing is that 3d objects sometimes can be problematic to work with as they doesn't always align perfectly and also problem is to make Your own creations as it is I guess much more complicated (I wish I could know to that good and now I think it is possible too though I know only little) so If You have a character it needs usualy morphs, poses and clothes and weapons which can mostly be found or maybe made which I wish I could do :)

To summ it up it is very easy, and very effective to use 3D art programs though there are limits to it, but for simple things now I think it can't be compared with simple drawing, though Your art Dynionikus is really exceptional and well it is much more rafinied, and I wish I could know to do things like You too :) as probably I will need some enchantments for my simple drawings too and that will be things I will not be able to make with those 3D models I have :).

For now here is what I have, and new thing is that I did a combat icon and it seems from now on I will be able to do more :) It is actualy a new start for Velora and I wan't to make it as original as can be done. Unfortunately that means some things will be changed and it might not be as it was before :)

For making simpler 3D objects (as in not characters/creatures or anything needing "morphs" or changes in pose), google wings 3D. Tutorials exist on youtube

Thanks btw most of those 3d pics can be used for post processing in some good graphic program and then they can be done really nice pictures, but that also takes much more time, but for really good art I guess that is also needed.

I guess there is still place for improvements and I will try to do what I can. Big thanks to ProphetSword and his thread of remaking pics done with 3d rendering software.

My new picture :) Guild leader. It seems I am starting this again.  :laughing6:

There is lots to be done but good thing is that I have story and I will have to tell it trough the game. I hope I will be able to do it and not to give up as I wish to do it good and still not to take me too long.

Just one of my latest creations, i am working on new set of those guys i already made but for higher resolutions. I have done 2 and 1/2 of sprites and i will have to do portraits. Now i am seriously thinking to start working on some usual fantasy figures, but i will probably need a bit more skill for that. still i will try after i finish with this. Here it is just one pic fro 800 square resolution.

The characters you show here and in the other threads look good. And of course, they arouse curiosity concerning the setting of your adventures.

But in the current state, I miss some individuality - three of them even are in the same pose, as far as I can tell. I have almost no experience with 3d graphic tools, but I assume the great problem is to make the characters look less static and more lively. Some skin texture would help, perhaps.

Title: Re: My creations :)
Post by: Milos Gulan on December 24, 2013, 04:30:53 AM
Yes they are in ready pose :) i plan to attach weapons and shield when needed. But it might be harder to actualy do it, as they need to be transformed to walls, then also weapons and shields. But that was the plan. I planed first for only sprite, but that will actualy need second layer like walls and doors which DC still doesn't have, it could also go for small pic.

Also i could make them work with different pose but then will not be usable for weapons, also i need to figure out how to make them on the same place which i think didn't for 1st 2 characters but now i think i figured it. They probably will have more poses like walking, sitting ect, if i get into this :D and probably will use humanlike character from now on. Anyway it is a bit harder but it is workable, and i expect to do some furniture too, hoping to do all 6 versions, though those higher resolutions will be heavy for download if i continue like this :) still i might be able to make nice looking mods maybe after some practice.

Here is 1st portrait btw :) i think those pics all need a bit of postwork but it is hard to do for all 6 resolutions so they need to be really good render at first place, this one has that sash a bit off and i dont know how to correct it.
Title: Re: My creations :)
Post by: steve_mcdee on December 24, 2013, 06:22:58 PM
I don't get why you need to do them for all six resolutions. Just choose one to use to make your game and focus on getting the images for that resolution looking as good as possible. Not many people are going to want to play the same game in six different resolutions.
Title: Re: My creations :)
Post by: Milos Gulan on December 25, 2013, 03:06:42 AM
Difficult to answer on that question, you never know what you might need them for. I hope i will make good pics one day and well if i am making them already i wouldn't like to have situation like now that i need a high resolution pic of character i like and that i have only low one. I just think it is much better to do it all 6 if i could make that wider resolutions, i probably would be doing them too.

You owuld do yourself a huge favor if you rendered at something like 1600x1600 and resized as needed...OR, render at the size you need and save the scene, then if you need another size, you reload the scene and re-render. These can save you lots of time and disk space. :)
Title: Re: My creations :)
Post by: Milos Gulan on December 25, 2013, 09:56:26 AM
Well you are right about 1600 i could do that too, but i have rendered settings saved for all 6 resolutions so it is just easy for me to click on render and save beside i will be needing all 6 of them for sure i hope. And sure i will save scenes so i can redising and use them for later. Ok here is just a quick thing that i did today :) this is armed now ready stance and a portrait too. I think for now i have about 20 figures to do i think around 8 have already icons made and half of them are gnomes, halflings and dwarves, and 2 elves :) well i will try after doing those to do some more serious and hopefuly better renders.

Here it goes something done as planed now i will try doing more:
Title: Re: My creations :)
Post by: manikus on December 25, 2013, 10:07:34 AM
Well, you should do as you want. :) I still don't understand why you want all 6 resolutions for your designs. I can understand if you were releasing art packs for others to use, but if you release a design, I would be very surprised if people wanted to play it through six times to see the different resolutions.
Title: Re: My creations :)
Post by: Milos Gulan on December 25, 2013, 11:31:29 AM
I might realease some art packs eventualy if i get better, i dont plan to do 6 versions of one design for sure, but i plan to use probably same characters in different versions. So it will be better to have all versions, and i am planing to do them and play them, if i am going to play it like i plan too :). Another reason is well if i collect some art from net then different versions could be used depending on the format i found for example this pic could probably work for all square resolutions http://fencingwithink.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/knight-3.jpg and this one can work with all normal resolutions http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs8/i/2005/293/4/5/dragon_hurlant_by_rinpoo_chuang.jpg and this one can be used for wider resolutions or as a big pic http://blackmarches.wdfiles.com/local--files/red-dragon-king/RedDragon.jpg

For resolutions what i am thinking now is that 1024 is best but a bit heavy to download probably, also icons are a bit small though still looking good, 800 i think this is maybe best as it is average size and icons are zoomed a bit, and 640 is low to dl and still good to play around with, probably best for some FRUA conversions, so after all there is a good reason to play with all those i think :) though i can't still make that wide one because of wall but i wish i can use it too and maybe have lower resolutions too, but well it is not that important for now.

Ok here is my 2nd character from the new series. For the icons i made new version of ranger icon too with some modifications and i think it looks better though i still think it looks a bit dark in comparison to other icons (good looking ones :) ). I only recently noticed that my second icon looks like attacking with shield so i think i will have to correct it too.

Cleric, it doesn't looks so good in higher res, but i think icon is done good and it looks great in fight :D I probably will have to do her once more. Then i plan to do one more wizard and that would be it as my plan with 8 characters is a bit too much for now :) so i might do it later. Anyway i think i am getting better with icon making though i really need to read those UANL articles to get it right.

I think your characters look quite well, particularly the last one.

How do these 3d-art programs work by the way, are the characters based on already existing models? And what about the items, do you have to do them all by yourself?
Title: Re: My creations :(
Post by: Milos Gulan on January 08, 2014, 07:31:44 AM
Tyvm, i hope they can be even better.

For the programs, answer is yes there are existing models and for the items i just use already made, and there is lots of things to find free. You can change a lot mostly depending on the quality of models, like colours and all other things, for models there are poses, expressions ect and also morphs and you can also fix them manualy. And lots of other things like light, animation, speach integratiion for figures ect. If you want to make something for yourself you have to use other program though or get already made things that you can change to a degree. And all those are just a base for work that needs to be worked on after :) but definitely is a future of 3d art that needs to be followed :D. For example like that icon of yours i like that has that punching effect here, i guess my works too can be improved with that will have to think about that for my icons, like here http://imageshack.us/a/img811/3363/rcsq.png

And definitely i am serious about this, gathering my collections :) will show just an example later after posting what i have done, i think this wizard looks good, icon definitely works good, though he looks a bit still unshaped and like he is from beach but has a nice chinese shirt that looks wizardly :) Here it is:

And here is an example of that bovine i have downloaded before and just rendered because it looked good, here are files that can be downloaded http://www.lynescreations.com/lynesfree2.htm
And here is more just for info http://www.lynescreations.com/lynesfree.htm

Good thing is that those models are from 10+ years and now work really good with this newer computers and software

And this is newer models also free that can be downloaded but it is a bit harder to collect those things as they come sometimes with passwords and just there is lots of things to download :) but still looks good, and also there are no problems to use them as they are not complex for relatively new computers. Here it is this is probably how my armors will look like in the future :) if i don't find something better http://freelancecomics.blogspot.com/2011/04/descargas-downloads.html

And for the paid things they can be very nice as they are all set up for use but they still need to be worked with :) and sometimes they are offered for free especialy in Daz3d.com. Here is just latest i found most interesting http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/vendor/DarioFish

Best of all you can make animations easy, though for something really good looking you will need good computer and some time as each picture needs to be rendered separately (and i think one second contains 30 frames so 30 pics and that needs to be procesed). So it can be very helpful tool if you can learn to work with it easy, though there are problems with it too as lots of contents and sometimes not having what you need ect, but in the long run i guess it is all workable, but still those methods used here and explained in UANLS i think are basis for anything else that those things can be added. So i actualy need to learn those too :D so i am actualy just unbeliveably happy i actualy will be able to work those things if everything goes good.

All art for 4 characters has been finished, now i probably will be doing questing :). I have done 4 pics for each character and that is for sprites normal standing, standing with weapons, standing turned back (i am having problem with black for girls back pic so i will have to do it again) and portrait pic. Posting portraits and icons :) i think they are passable for game, but they could be much better if i continue to work like this hopefuly, though there are some limits i guess :) with 3d art still, but that probably can be corrected with postowork.

Here it is:

Looks good. Do you intend to use dark outlines for the sprites? The sprites shown above seem somewhat partly outlined...
Title: Re: Milos Gulan's DC Art Resources
Post by: Milos Gulan on December 03, 2016, 03:56:11 AM
Yes, they are. Reason is those border of the sprites are mixed with green background and show green on the picture so I need to darken them. I use dark grey for now instead of black that I did before. I was thinking about shadow for sprites, I have seen others are doing it but for now I will leave it without and might add it later if I decide it is needed.

I am not sure if it is the best option like I do now yet (that is partial border dark grey and without shadow), but I am hoping that I will improve. Any comments are welcome. Next I will try using already made sprites like guard, goblin and cobold before creating more. I still need to do background sprite for this one before it will be completed. But now need to see a friend before I start doing rendering.

I was thinking about black border maybe it could be replaced with other better colour also I could add shadow. I will have to try it in the future, but for now I better concentrate on creating of my design.

Here is back sprite of barmaid, I think I will have to do another one for second Inn I will work on but for now to Guildhouses.

Are you outlining by hand? If so, sample the color right next to where you are going to ouline and then make a darker version of that color - eg: grey for the dress and brown for the hair and red for the skin, etc.

Also something to consider are the relative sizes - look at the three front wall views, the middle wall is 3/7th of the close wall, and the far wall is 1/3rd of the middle wall.

All Right :) I am trying to set things up with DS and it is going nicely. I will be able to transfer morphs between Genesis figures from now on and that is what is new and probably will try working on it more. I have invested some money into all of it and I still miss lots of things but I am hoping that I will be able to work better. I still prefer to use DS and maybe one day I will switch to Unity if I learn to script good as it seems to have really good tools as for example AGFPRO.

But for now DS... Mostly I am using G4 and G5 figures but slowly trying to get up to G6 and even G7...
