Special graphics circumstnce requests
« on: July 05, 2017, 07:03:35 PM »
i would like to be able to use Special Graphics during Text Statement events and Guided Tour events.
I would also like to be able to exclude some Text Statement events and am wondering if this is the kind of thing that event Attributes could work for? (Not being able to exclude certain Text Statement events is not a dealbreaker for me.)

Dear Manikus, I neither understand what you mean with "special graphics" nor what "exclude text statements" means.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot about the other thread... :D Makes sense now.

Concerning Guided Tours: In some of my modules, I added guides via a complex mixture of transfer and pass time events, it would be great if there would be easier ways... So either the option to add special graphics or "normal" sprites to the steps in a step event would be great...

I started this thread as a place for Paul to see the requests in something that was more appropriate.

Currently, Guided Tours do not support any images. I can see where having an actual guide for the events would be useful. :D And sprites seem logical to me. I could also see the use of small pics on some or all steps, too. That is a different feature request, however. (Added to my list.)

Right now, something that is kind of hard with Special Graphics is triggering them via a specific thing, mostly because I haven't done a tutorial. (Currently, I am using ASLs to control images with great success.)

Editor and Engine version 3.01 support 'Special Graphics'
for Text events.  See documentation at

http://dianneandpaul.net/UAF/Help/SASpecialGraphic.html

It also implements $GET_EVENT_Attribute so that you can
define an attribute for particular events that you do or don't
want to display such a graphic.

http://dianneandpaul.net/UAF/Help/SASpecialAbilitiesScripts.html

I want a mini-mod for the  Guided Tour event.  I have no idea how
that works.

Looks great, Paul. I will try these out tonight and have a mini-mod for you when I come in tomorrow.

I would like to request two more special graphics circumstances - Character View and Item View.

For use in altering the character image to match their equipped items?
(And/or including images of the equipment?)  I can certainly think of a few uses for these options.
___

It was on my mind the other day that DC doesn't seem to support FRUA's palette animation. So I wondered... when you import FRUA designs, does it ignore those animations?

*BTW... I have only ever seen the 'Import Frua' option as grayed out. What are the requirements for importing a FRUA design?

DC doesn't support .tlb or .lbm file formats. But, DC does support multi-frame animation, and I long ago made and uploaded DC versions of the FRUA animations for smallpics and portraits (including color cycling).

I tried one of those out the other night. It worked great. 8)

(Not that I'd use a photo of James Earl Jones in a mod...It was just an experiment)

**Has supporting animated files ever come up in DC discussions?  AFAIK... GIF & aPNG can encode just the changes in subsequent frames... with no need for full-frame repetition.  (And it goes without saying that they come with... variable frame-rates.)

The reason I mention it, is because doing something even so simple as the Phlan Delugeā€”in DC, is not simple at all.

AFAIK, DC does not support animated big-pics, and does not support looped videos.  The Phlan Deluge is just six frames long. An AVI of that is just over a megabyte in size, and plays in a fraction of a second. You'd have to make the video itself be of the loop.  60 frames of that (is not long enough), and that's nearly fourteen megabytes.

The aPNG image format works like GIFs, but supports 24-bit color and 8-bit transparency.

1) I would like to be able to use special graphics to display a compass rose in ALL events. (Add NPC, Gain Experience, Question List, Special Item, ...)

2) I would like to be able to suppress the special graphics whenever a big pic or overland map is displayed.

One thing at a time.....

Engine version 3.26:

http://dianneandpaul.net/UAF/DungeonCraft_326.7z

attempts to invoke the special graphics for the circumstances
listed in the help:

http://dianneandpaul.net/UAF/Help/SASpecialGraphic.html

All of this is untested.  I'll leave that to you.  It may be incomplete.
I'll trust you to let me know what is missing.

After we get this working in the circumstances you need, we will
provide functions for your script to determine what kind of picture
is displayed and whatever else you need to limit the display to
particular cases.

This new version works in my limited testing. Circumstance 'k' (Question List) definitely works. A function such as $GET_CURRENT_PIC_SIZE() would be appreciated. The script attached to the SpecialGraphics SA is named "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPYZabcdefghijkl$CompassDisplay". Could the "CompassDisplay" portion of the name be changed to whatever I want?

I believe it can.  That allows you to have multiple scripts.

Great work guys. :D

Nol, you definitel can use a different name other than "CompassDisplay", for example "MoonPhase". *cough* Steve McDonald *cough* ;)
