Through discussion with Dinonykos, I have realized that certain Special Abilities (SA) are going to be needed in everyone's designs to make DC work properly. They will all be included in the default SA database of course, but I thought a list of them here would prove helpful for designers who want to do their own thing. :)
You shouldn't change the names of these, but you can change the content to get different results if you so desire.

Needed SAs:

$EVENT_WhoTries_Attempt
CombatPlacement (not completely necessary, but without it, all monsters will surround the party regardless of editor settings)
Competing (items inset below are called by Competing, but not necessry)
     IsSweeping
     item_CombatAim
     item_CombatAim
     monsterLevel
     playerControl
     turnUndead
Global_Combat (not completely necessary, but you will want)
Turn$SYS$
class_baseName
