The approach I would try needs events on every accessible square

Perhaps.  Perhaps not.  Perhaps the engine
could be tweeked to activate a global sort
of event chain with parameters.  Or something.

Well, keep it in mind that 'simple' tweeks to
the engine are available.

Ok :) i might get myself together hopefuly in few months, i have to read trough this UANLs, lots to learn there and i hope i will get DC to run in 3+3 versions (meaning 640/800/1024 both default and square view). Then i might have 6 games to work on, let see how long it will take. Next thing i will have to do is to search trough forum for another 2 square viewpoints as i found 800*600 square here http://frua.rosedragon.org/pc/uanews/uanl47/da-800x600-lay.htm and will have to adjust 800*600 default mod so this mean i have for now 1024, 800 (not adjusted borders yet), 624 and only 800 square tutorial. Hope i will work it out soon.

but it would be a huge design in terms of MB

Who worries about MB?  Grade-schoolers start counting at GB.
TB doesn't frighten them.  MB????

Those of us that use public wi-fi that times out after an hour worry about it. Sometimes. :D

It won't be a small difference like from 9 to 15, it'll be like from 9 to 300. And if you do an epic mod or go with mp3 sound files could get really big. I know, not really a concern except for those of us in my situation, and of course one of our very faithful community members who uses dial-up at least part of the time, I mean other than me. :D

But this shouldn't stop anyone from doing what they want to do - just think about making huge (relatively speaking) downloads available in alternate forms of several smaller downloads.

I repeat my offer to anyone who finds it
too painful to do a big download.

I will mail a micro-SDHC card to anyone in
the states with whatever is needed up to
32 GB.  I would like the card back.  I'll enclose
a self-addressed, stamped envelope for
that purpose.

Someone can probably duplicate this offer in
other places on the globe.

This is just one of many reason why you totally rock, Paul. :)
