POLL: [DC] 1e classes
« on: January 27, 2009, 11:27:42 AM »
If you could add one of the First Edition classes to Dungeon Craft, which one would it be? Why?

There are a couple of us around who prefer 1e to later editions of AD&D and eventually we'd like to try and put together some kind of 1e setting for DC. This is still one of those pie-in-the-sky kind of ideas, but a bit of focus is always nice. :) I think we'll physically set the new effort in the world of Greyhawk since that was the world Mr. Gygax was using. :D

For those wondering why Druids are not on the list, they've already been included in Dungeon Craft. :)

(I also want to say that I don't dislike 2e or 3.5e and can tolerate 4e, I just prefer one 1e - probably 'cause I'm old.)

Edited to add: Sorry folks, I forgot to add the bard in the original poll. I could not find an option to let people cancel their votes, so I reset the vote count. I apologize for any inconveniences.

Illusionist for me - hard choice, but I think they could be:

1. Relatively easy to add to the engine ("just" need a new type of spell)
2. Fun (we could have lots of neat spells like Chromatic Orb, Prismatic Sphere, etc.)
3. Good for gnomes (who noone ever chooses as a race, as their only really good thing was being able to multiclass as illusionists).

Otherwise, maybe monks :D

How come there's no option for "All of the above?'  :D

Mostly so someone would ask.  :P
Just kidding.
It's hard to create a ranking if people can answer "all of 'em".

I voted for Monk, and my palm was quivering as I did so.

Illusionists are OK, those mostly to have the snot beat out of.

Assassins are a nice class, though I'm still not sure what a "Waghalter" is supposed to mean.

Thief-Acrobats and Cavaliers - these bring back bad memories of a certain Saturday morning cartoon.

Barbarians are a lot of fun for me to play, I mean, "Me like smash!"

I can only speculate that you didn't offer Druid and Bard as choices because DC already has them.

Oh crap! I forgot to include the bard. :( But, yes, druids are already in DC. :)

I am going to edit the options and give folks the chance to change their votes. Well, it looks like I don't have that option... so I will reset the votes instead.

I chose Bard but Monk was so close that I had to really think about it.

Bard won out because while Monk is simply an awesomely fun class to play, Bard brings more party utility, as well as being able to fight. Jack of All Trades, Master of None.

Back when I played 1e, we didn't have the cavalier, barbarian, or acrobat classes. Illusionists don't really blow stuff up, and I could never get the rolls for a bard or monk. Assassins, however, were always fun to play, even when I had to take out one of my other characters. (A contract is a contract, after all.)

Upon reflection, however, due to the nature of the computer version of the game, I'd change my vote to bard were I able.

Unless bard is too hard to program, in which case I would stay with assassin.

I voted for Bard, because I have fond memories of the Finder's Stone Trilogy that the Gold Box of Curse was based upon.  You can't do a follow up using those characters like Finder the bard, unless there's a class for bards.  :)

If Bard is to be included, PLEASE make it the 2E Bard.  There were so many hoops a 1E Bard had to jump through.

But adding the 2e bard would kind of defeat the purpose of aking about adding a 1e class. :D :D :D
