Star Trek Into Darkness :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=0gH2PVVfp68&feature=endscreen

Looks interesting.  I must say, though, they certainly took their time in making this sequel.

I'm looking forward to The Hobbit coming out this weekend.

But I am surprised by the decision to make this movie into a trilogy. My copy of The Lord of the Rings runs 1518 pages and made sense as a trilogy because it was one to begin with.

I have my doubts about the 287 pages of The Hobbit filling 3 feature length movies, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic. I hope that poor old Tom Bombadill finally gets his chance to appear in the third film, There and Back Again.

hard to say about the live action hobbit. I am "cautiously optimistic" (to copy a good phrase) also. But I am looking to try to get a hold of the original cartoon versions from like 1978.

Me too though I can't say I am really that interested in Hobbit atm still it seems nicely done, on the other hand that cartoon from 1978 was really a treasure :) and I got it from a friend some time ago and I think that was real luck for me. Btw I GM-ed Add 2e tabletop session with a premade Thorin Oakenshield who was a leader of the company and maybe 7-9 more pregens, who after defeating a death knight with dancing sword (who killed paladin in party but was raised if I remember corectly) met a white dragon in his mountinous cave :D. They defeated him and took the treasure as it was one session game. They polimorphed death knight into a fish btw :). I always remember that game when Thorin Oakenshield is mentioned :D

And here is something like punisher but female version - Haywire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj5QE4mLUOM

Haywire was a fun movie.

The reason given that they could make The Hobbit a trilogy is because they are taking stuff from all the appendices and other books and shoving it in.

My understanding was this was difficult because it was a hard hobbit to break.

The Rankin/Bass TV movie "The Hobbit" was a gem. Having the professor's lyrics set to music was a lot of fun.

I am leaning towards NOT seeing The Hobbit.  I also cannot wrap my head around stretching it into 3 movies.  I imagine it goes like this:

1.  To the Mountain
2.  The Dragon
3.  Battle of Five Armies

Also, I am pretty pissed that they are all done filming, but are stretching out over 3 years.

To protest, I will be the only guy in the world that just waits till 2014 and watched the first two on DVD and then goes and sees the conclusion.

I doubt you'll be the only one.  ;)

I'm counting on the Mayans to cover my lack of Christmas shopping, so it makes no sense to watch the start of a trilogy at this point.
Some days it just doesn't pay to gnaw through the straps.
