The first trailer for "The Green Lantern"

There's certainly a lot of green in it.

Who's the villain with the bulging forehead?

I'm guessing Hector Hammond (who will be in Rocco's ponderous, and slightly-delayed, SHUA project, btw).

I guess that means that Sinestro won't be the main villain of the film?

I don't know.  I hope they keep Sinestro a good guy until the sequel, when he's not fighting for screen time against Hal Jordan's origin (which isn't it nice that they've apparently gone the "let's make him an endearing jerk" route who clearly more than deserves godlike powers  :occasion18:).

Smiley request (again):

- skeptical / paranoia smiley

We could replace some really useless icon (like the Poeminister) with it, should the smiley window get too crowded.

Celebrating cinema’s greatest long takes:

The antidote to the "run and gun"-editing style.

Excerpt:

Quote
A filmmaker renowned for his use of long takes, Cuarón’s work on the under-appreciated Children Of Men remains his finest employment of the technique and, some would say, the finest use of long takes, full stop.

I'm among those who would say that.

Added. But, I think we've passed being too crowded on the smiley popup window long ago.

From a film blog: 100 things I love about the movies

A totally random list (somewhat like this thread) - and that's why it's great.

I agree with a lot of the points, expecially 1, 5, 12, 19... etc.

I just got back from seeing The Warrior's Way.  It's much better than its abysmal U.S. box office would suggest, although so idiosyncratic, it's probably best suited for cult appreciation.  It's more Raimi than was Raimi's spaghetti western, and just as eccentric as a Sabata.

Referring back to my Daily Show posting from page two of this thread: John Oliver from the Daily Show turned up at my workplace today (his plane was stuck at Hannover airport).

He was a bit astonished that someone in Germany would recognize him.  :D

John Woo's Hard-Boiled is one of my top ten favorite movies.  I had the pleasure, the first time I saw it, of seeing it in a movie theater on the big screen, the way it should be appreciated.  Awesome movie!

I also saw Tony Jaa's Warrior King/The Protector on the big screen.  That long take was exhausting for the audience as well as Jaa.  The movie is otherwise not much more than mediocre, but that shot was amazing!

I didn't watch a lot of movies in 2010 (New Baby... Same as 2005, when my first son was born - I still have to catch up with a lot of movies from that year) - but here are the best 2010 movies I did see, in no particular order:

  • The Social Network (Fincher did it again!)
  • Inception (mind-bendingly great)
  • The Ghost Writer (well-made suspense in the best tradtion of classical thrillers)

Still waiting for "True Grit", but I think it won't open here until January.

What sucked:

  • Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton has lost it)
  • Eclipse (aargh)
  • Robin Hood (dull and pointless, draining most of the fun out of the story)

My year's best, so far:

1.  Toy Story 3
2.  Kick-@ss
3.  Megamind
4.  Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
5.  The Warrior's Way

Yes, I know, it's a list that screams "geek," but they made me happiest.   :icon_geek:
Expanding the list to 10 might make me slightly less geeky-looking...

6.  Inception
7.  Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
8.  Despicable Me
9.  The Wolfman
10.  RED

...Nope, that didn't really help much, did it?   :happy1:

Worst movie I saw in the theaters this year was (and if you're thinking Jonah Hex, you would've been right if I hadn't also seen):

MacGruber.   :pottytrain5:

Nice list, hans.  :)

Of the movies listed by you, I definetly plan to see Toy Story 3, Scott Pilgrim and Red.

The others maybe... if I can find the time.
