Remembering our discussions from last year about what one might do to attract more players to DC modules, I wondered which of the existing modules have so far been played by the forum members at all.

I have forgot to vote for Case of Stolen Masterpiece. Mod that beside Village of Hommlet is just really great :)

I didn't vote. I can, bu I wanted to ask first. :D I'm in a unique position here, I have spent more than a few minutes on all of them, not that I have finished playing all of them, but I have felt obligated to at least persue everything that comes down the pipe. :)

Hi Milos, since only you voted yet except for myself, I have reset the vote. I could not change it that way that you can correct your vote, unfortunately.

There are a few designs like 'An Unexpected Encounter' or your 'Towers of Magic' for which I am not sure how long I played them... By the way, Granamedia once made a design named "Downtown" which was regarded as a Demo, but I think it could be counted as a completed design, too. Indeed, I think it is one of the better designs we have.

Manikus, my idea was just to get an overview. For example, if there were designs which have particularly low numbers of players, I would consider to write reviews for these first (or at least give a few comments). I think that you should vote for all... ;)

Okay, my friend, I have voted. I really need to write some reviews. I really need to release some designs. I really need to make videos of me playing designs to put on youtube. ;)

:) Me too, but If I could make my design playable by next year, I mean interesting for play I would be happy. But I have decided to work harder from now on, and play FRUA :)

I really need to write some reviews.

Same here, but due to work, I had not much time for playing DC designs during January.
But it would be great if we had more opinions (if not complete reviews) for those designs he have not been discussed at all here in the forum (or elsewhere).

As soon as Paul and I are not fixing bugs, I will take some time to play and review some designs. Maybe we should encourage peopple who don't want to write a review to at least rate the designs they play? Perhaps we could even suggest some categories?

I found several different categories in reviews for FRUA and DC modules, e.g.:
  • Story, Events and Riddles, Graphics, Presentation, Gameplay
  • Plot Matter, Artwork, Hacks, Text, Events, Originality, Errors, Difficulty
  • Story Execution, Encounters, Bug Control, Innovativity

I have already decided to give "Fury" a try first... :)

I think 'characters' is indeed an interesting category, though it is interfingered with 'story' in my opinion. Other aspects (which we discussed already earlier) are how to differentiate between own graphics and graphics from other sources, this is why we had 'graphics' and 'presentation' as separate categories in the 2009 contest. I guess is not so important which categories to use as long as it is clear what is meant by them...

By the way, it is a quite a challenge to guess who voted so far except for us three who already posted in this thread. I think Steve might be among them...  :icon_scratch:

I use characters and story as a way of saying "character development" and "plot development"

I already encountered one of the problems that may occur when people try to play old designs: "Fury" comes with an .exe-file that does not run on my system. I moved an 0.914-exe-file into the folder, but I guess I missed a kind of intro.

The design itself begins quite promising and has the interesting aspect of working with screenshots from different movies, but of the same actors.

I am glad to hear that someone else is trying Harri's game. :) I tried to convert this one and The Last Day of Autumn to the curent version of DC. I did not succeed.

I had not thought about them running in modern versions of Windows...however, I do regularly play/test DC through a VM that is running Windows XP. Maybe I will try my conversion in that to see if part of my failure was due to a "too new" operating system. :D

In Harri's two designs, he tries some really innovative stuff, stuff that you or I haven't tried yet, and Harri did it 20 years ago.  (Like simulating flying)
