I'm always happy to playtest.  :)

Basilisk is a hard grind for non-maxed characters,  I've been playing it again, spent all my available funds on training, and had everyone ready to train, but couldn't afford to train anyone.  (Until I got further into the evil temple.  It smooths out after a while, and I even got enough loot to buy some potions of giant strength!)

Sign me up for a play test.
Those changes sound just like what the doctor ordered.
I didn't have problems with the frame and fonts, though.

No, but I did.  Always have.  That game was made during a time when hacked modules were a rarity, and the font and frame were thrown on as an afterthought just before release because it was something we were finally capable of doing well.

I'm going to start a new thread in the "Preview" area, so head over there if you want to help out with the project.  Also, drop me a PM with your email address so I can send you the playtest versions.  Thanks.

* Tweaked the spells of the clerics of Loviatar and reduced their overall level (what the hell was I thinking back then?)

Maybe you were trying to simulate the special abilities of priests who worship the Goddess of Pain and Torture.

1st Level Special Ability:
Pain Touch: A successful touch attack causes the target to suffer a -4 to attack and -2 to Dexterity penalty for as many rounds as the priest's level

2nd Level Spell:
Loviatar's Caress: At 5th level, priests are able to use this spell once a day. This spell provides the means of unerringly delivering another single harmful spell of 4th level or less that requires a touch to deliver.

That was what I thought too. It was a nice break having enemy clerics cast something other then Hold Person, and to give them a more distinct flavour.

I was certainly using Forgotten Realms source material, so maybe that's what I was doing (it's been 18 years, I really don't remember).  Won't stop me from changing it in the new version, though.

The CharEdit program was an annoying 16 bit program that needs to be run from a Dos prompt. So no use in 64 bit Win 7 or DosBox. And my cordless keyboard doesn't work in Win XP using Virtual Box.
CharEdit does work under DosBox.  Humph!

Hmm...I could swear I tried running it under DosBox and getting the "this is a Windows file" message, but when checking now it works.
So I'm sorry about that.

I think I must have confused CharEdit with CKIT...

Wait...isn't CKIT.EXE the main UA executable?

Argh! I meant Hack CKIT or HackCKIT, whatever program you need to fix thieves' saving throws and so on. I did fix things on my old Windows XP machine, but on my new machine I'm not able to review the changes.

That clears up the confusion.  Was a little concerned that you might be erasing a file that would make UA useless...
