Combat encounter limits?
« on: November 13, 2012, 02:00:17 PM »
What are the limits on how many enemies can be in one group?

In the module I'm currently playing my party enter a room from the south. The room is two squares, with the second square east of the square the party enters.
The monsters are divided into two groups, but one of them is south of my party, and thus outside the room, which is contrary to the text description.
So I deciced to edit the encounter and changed the facing of the monsters from "S, E" to "East", but now only half of them appear in the battle.
Why do only half of them appear?

Their composition are:
1 Fire Giant.
3 Driders.
5 Priests
2 Theurgists

Incidentally I solved the problem by changing "S, E" to "N, E".

And kudos to anyone who can tell which module it is.

The limit on the number of monsters in a single Combat Event is 50.

Unfortunately, FRUA is not very intelligent when it places monsters on the combat map. Tall, wide, and big monsters sometimes don't show up because the engine thinks there's not enough room to place them (this is most likely the bug you encountered).

Even worse, the engine will sometimes place monsters on inaccessible tiles.
