Gold Box games cheat codes
« on: July 21, 2010, 12:25:04 PM »
Pool of Radiance Forgotten Realms series:
  • Pool of Radiance cheat code is 'start.exe STING'
  • Curse of the Azure Bonds cheat code is 'start.exe STING Wooden' as noted here
  • Secrets of the Silver Blade cheat code is 'start.exe Hoop Gem' as noted here
  • Pools of Darkness cheat code is 'game.exe 2 2 Helm' as noted here
  • FRUA doesn't seem to have obvious cheat code. aka not based on PoR code

Savage Frontier Forgotten Realms series
  • Gateway to the Savage Frontier currently needs a hacked executable (attached) and then 'game.exe Super Wooden' press the Z button on your turn and '-' on the monsters
  • Treasure of the Savage Frontier 'game.exe 2 2 Helm'

Dragonlance series
  • Champions of Krynn cheat code is 'start.exe Woof Helm'
  • Death Knights of Krynn cheat code is 'start.exe anything Helm'
  • Dark Queen of Krynn appears the same code as FRUA so again not sure.

The two Buck Rogers game are using the PoR code base, but all the normal cheat code has been removed. And there is no obvious "Gods intervene!" in the text strings of the engine

Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace  is a different code base, the previous games PoR based code bases are Pascal where as this one is C/C++, I couldn't see anything that looks like a "Gods intervene" text string ether.

What ones did you know, as I've never found any site naming the cheats until after I originally disclosed the CotAB codes a few years back.

There was mention of the "the gods intervene" but only in regards that it existed but people didn't know how to make it happen.

Hmmm... I knew that there were cheats, because I read it in some 90's German gaming magazine, but now that you ask, that might have been different cheat codes.

I'm too lazy right now to go to the attic, look for the boxes with the old magazines and look for the specific issues.  :-\

Thanks a lot, Simeion. :) This will greatly aid the effort to convert these games for FRUA and DC use.

I did a pretty thorough web search yesterday for GoldBox cheats, and the only thing I found that wasn't yours (Simeon) or your codes copy and pasted, was one fellow who showed how to hack the saved character files for Pools of Radiance. :D It's astounding how many sites purported to have cheats, but ended up only have the very same walk-thorough as all the other sites - sometimes stripping off the name of original author, sometimes not.

FRUA:
Nologgie reports that this is the FRUA equivalent of The Gods Intervene!
"I don't have a type-in code for FRUA, but adding

1f102 74 90
1f103 10 90

to the diff.tbl turns on the "win" button in play mode. "

Offline version of the original Neverwinter Nights?
It has a walk mode, which enables you to walk anywhere and avoid all events, just the thing for mapping. It can be switched on and off at will.
Path to this command is found from the main game screen as follows:
GM > TP > Walk

Champions of Krynn cheat code works brilliantly, but the Death Knights of Krynn is not doing anything for me at all. I didn't try the latter until last night, and it wasn't until trying it that I realized I don't have any documentation for the game, so couldn't look up the words. :)

I don't know the magic words for DKK, but manually applying this diff to the main executable should get you started.

380 25 4B

(Make a backup first, of course.  ;) )

Thank you very much. :)

I've got to get up to speed on all of the Dragonlance stuff if I'm going to help out with a DC setting for it. :D

You're very welcome.

I'm trying to learn 2e AD&D to build that option for FRUA Gold. As an old dog with a new (to me) trick, I'll probably be asking for help on the forum.

Once I get far enough along to know what to ask.  ;)

Documentation for any Gold Box game can be found at various places:
http://www.weekendwastemonster.net/crpgs/directory.html
This site lists of copy protection passwords for many of the games too.
Then there is Replacement docs:

I had gotten the proper documentation from Replacementdocs by the time I read your response, Ishad. :) I usually do that right off, but I thought that since I had cheat codes, that I wouldn't need it.

Incidentally, nologgie, once I change the bytes, the other cheat code now works so that the gods can indeed intervene on my behalf. :)

So, you're going to do the 2e version of DL? That's fine with me, I just need to know which version to look at (I have pdf files of both the 1e and 2e material). Is there even a big difference? I mean other than the general AD&D differences, of course. ;)

Actually I'm doing a 2e conversion of basic rather than DL, but I think most of it should transfer. Monster thac0s are considerably different, and I know there are differences in XP and some weapon allowances. I know there are things like weapon specialization that I don't think UA can handle, but DC probably could. I'll have to study the books to find the differences and see what can be implemented in UA, and keep a separate list for DC.  ;)

Generally, the differences seem to be just the differences between the two editions of D&D.
In the original edition, everyone could advance no further than 18th level.
