Iron Wall 2 not animating

You all are familiar with this default picture from FRUA art gallery? It's labeled Iron Wall 2. The one that starts out as a solid wall, and then animates the frame to a fireball blast.

When I tried to use this image, all I got was the wall intact. The animation, or second frame, never fired. ProphetSword mentioned that the community had a work around for this issue. So I wanted to ask about whatever tricks are used to make this image play correctly.

Animations become still images when used in a Text Statement event.

Try using a Special Item event or a Gain Experience event instead.

What Nol says will definitely work. I tend to use the Give Experience event and award the party 1 xp, which will go unnoticed most of the time.

Also, if you're using hacks, the unofficial UA 1.3 Patch also fixes this issue.  Here's a list of changes that the add-on provides:

  • Added Brian O'Donnell's "Pronoun" fix.
  • Added Brian O'Donnell's "Treasure 2 Pic Display" bug fix.
  • Added Halfscan's "Death by Old Age" bug fix.
  • Added "fix" for game always asks for password "bug".
  • Added Watcher05's dungeon 36 "Do-Only-Once" bug fix.
  • Added Brian O'Donnell's fix to allow animated pics in text events.
  • Added Brian O'Donnell's River Combat code.
  • Added David Knott's "Temple Rapid Healing" bug fix.
  • Added Gender Strength Equality hack.
  • Corrected the saving throw tables.
  • Filled in Thief Saving Throws table

Thank you, it's good to know the underlying issue. For a quick fix, I would probably go with the Give Experience event.

Once I start hacking, I'll update to the 1.3 patch.

Once I start hacking, I'll update to the 1.3 patch.

Just so you know, all you have to do to institute this patch is just drop it in the design directory.  UAShell takes care of the rest.  Naturally, you would only want to do this in a design you want labeled as a hacked design.  But, it's not hard to implement.
