Howdy!
After 16 years  (WOW!), I ran across a 3.5 inch floppy with the massive design I finished back in 1995.
I dug out my ancient laptop that runs Windows NT 4.0, dug up my Unlimited Adventures game, and discovered I have no disks.. just the manual.

So I downloaded the program from the web, installed my design and settled in for some fun!

EVENTS WON'T ALWAYS FIRE! It appears to be the Who Pays event...
So far, a "Who Pays" fails to fire after a text statement chain,
and also as a stand alone event as an Inn, and also as a stand alone
pay to get out of jail.

Could it be that I need the 1.2 patch? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

... is there anywhere to download FRUA with the patches already installed? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

The 1.2 patch would be my first guess. If you're not installing it from the A: or B: drive you may need to read this.

I look forward to seeing your design!

And check your messages.  :)

That sounds good. I'd like to see that. ;)

Hey, if I can get it up and running and cleaned up a bit, I will upload it.
Seem to remember one module had a problem I never resolved..

It's nothing fancy, no hacks, just a group of friends who stumble into a
defeat the Evil One adventure.

Thanks for the Update.bat advice..... it wasn't working so far, LOL!

Were you ever a member of the UA Mailing List, OldDM, or the AOL UA boards?  There are a few old-timers lurking around, I think, who might remember if you were...

Probably the infamous dungeon 36?

If there's a problem with the module, you could post a question at the Troubleshooting section. There's usually someone here that can help you.

Some events refuse to work inside other events, lots of events won't work if they come after an either/or event. The chain event is here for that. The game is very picky. If you like to use lots of qualifiers then you're going to need to chain a lot.

Happy to report that thanks to the helpful people here, I am playing UA once again! YAY!
I couldn't get the sound to work other than PC sounds; my sound card isn't in the install list, darn it.

It wasn't playing right because I didn't have the 1.2 patch... as for the infamous dungeon 36, I seem
to remember a bit of frustration with that, back in the day.

So far had to fix a combat with monsters stuck behind walls, and should probably reduce the frequency of "Show me your Town Permit" guards.

Good thing I remembered that if you don't help the Elven lady, you can't win! ;)

Hans, I am still a member of the old UA Mailing List, but never really contributed much to it.

Have you tried playing it through DOSBox?

Nope.
Used to have UAShell and hack programs loaded, but never needed DOSBox.
Guess I will check it out!
edit to add: OMG, will DOSBox let me play UA on my modern 64 bit Vista laptop????

I am resisting the urge to start creating a new module.... for me, D&D's fun was 74% in the
creation of dungeons and adventures, and UA was so much fun for the entire year it took making
"Torqant's Tomb".

In short: Yes.

You should also have sound then. Be sure to select Soundblaster or Roland music and FX in the UAShell menu (or the UA installation menu, but you should make sure to get UAShell running so you can play hacked modules).

retchin fretchin old vs new.... pfffffffttttt.

Got DOSBox up and running, just how cool is that?!?!?!!?

Bummer, the design is on the Old Computer. Old computer has a 3.5 and a CD-R.
But today's discs, the OC won't read. Got no old discs that aren't partially filled. Old Computer not internet accessible... I don't have a land line to plug it into!!!
Can't get disc formatted in correct format to be able to use on old computer....

So tomorrow, I fire up Not Quite As Old computer, which has both a 3.5 and CD-R too.
Hopefully IT will be able to write my design to an old disc with a bit of space on it, or I
will have to get REALLY creative, dammit.

I feel your pain.

And if you ask for a null modem cable in a computer store the clerk will look at you like you have three heads.
