This is what the ballista looked like. If I remember correctly, I had included these graphics as background images on a special level, and the approaching enemies where sprites.

Hi Uatu, if you need any support with this project, just ask. I think a lot of people wait for an Uatu-Design and thus would hasten to help you!

I sometimes use the same graphics for the nearby and far away NPC walls and the sprite pictures representing distant and most distant NPCs... depends of what you want to achieve, of course.

...I think it would best replicate the BRs for Explosive Grenades to use the "Necklace of Missile"s SpecAb, Plasma Throwers regular "Fireball" and Rocket Launchers "Delayed Blast Fireballs."...

Of course, SSI's Buck Rogers required a combat turn to "Ready" a Plasma Thrower or Rocket Launcher.  I will be unable to duplicate that, since even when an item is set for only one attack every two rounds, UA still allows an attack every round.

I am trying to finish this necromancer. New things that I remembered this morning is that I should do only first sprite and wall images and the rest (2nd and 3rd row of sprite pictures) to leave as generic for groups of monsters. That will speed up things a bit, I am hoping.

Electro-Ray?

Not sure what spells you can put to use, but here are some suggestions:

Stinking Cloud could be transformed into a gas grenade that causes nausea.
Hold Person might be able to replicate the functionality of the dazzling grenades, but since it is targeted, maybe a dazzling ray?
Fireball could represent a large scale fragmentation device.
Sleep could be used as knock-out grenades or knock-out gas.
Dimension Door could operate as some sort of teleportation device.
Ice Storm could stand in for a frost grenade of some kind.
Cloud Kill a much more potent gas grenade that can outright kill enemies.

Also, with a graphical change, spells like Blade Barrier could stand in as an electrical barrier or another kind of grenade (can never have too many of those, I guess).

Just some thoughts.

Yes, "Electro Ray" sounds much better than Lightningthrower.   :P

I'll reserve the terms "guns" "pistols" and "rifles" for gameplay projectile weapons (most, or all, created as forms of Slings).

Weapons that require "using" a spell will be "grenades" "(plasma) throwers" "(rocket) launchers" and any added "rays" or "beams."  I may also add Sonic Stunner into this category.  I'll make these weapons essentially Wands with limited charges, requiring one hand or both to use.

I think it would best replicate the BRs for Explosive Grenades to use the "Necklace of Missile"s SpecAb, Plasma Throwers regular "Fireball" and Rocket Launchers "Delayed Blast Fireballs."

Some grenades I will probably just have to leave out as I don't think its possible to duplicate the protective effects of, like, Aerosol Mist or Chaff Grenades.

I'm wondering about giving Jetpacks the "Dimension Door" SpecAb (with unlimited charges) because IIRC in the SSI BRs, if a character ever got them to work right, they could fly to anywhere on the combat map.

I want to include Sci-fi versions of many of UA's spells, for example a Disintegrator to use the "Disintegrate" spell, or renaming the "Potion of Giant Strength" as some sorta Steroid.  Lightning Bolts might come from some kind of a Lightningthrower (like a flamethrower but firing electric bolts) --although that's a pretty clunky name.

I'll soon have to start thinking about what sorts of new items to add.  Suggestions are welcome.

There's also room for more normal weapons.  Maybe a few weapons from standard UA would be worth carrying over, like an Axe, Club, or Darts...?

Some more modern standards that might fit in, like Brass Knuckles, or Metal Baton, or Nightstick, or Switchblade, or Pepper Spray, or Straight Razor...?

Tools that could double as weapons, like a Machete, or Ice Pick, or Wrench, or Shovel, or Crowbar, or Metal Chain...?

Or even clumsy improvised weapons, like Brick, or Rock, or Broken Bottle, or Bar Stool...?

What would you like to see in the Buck Rogers inventory?

Spade & Archer: The Prequel to Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon by Joe Gores was a pleasure to read.

It's not as good as Hammett's seminal classic (which I listed among my all-time favorite novels), but well worthwhile.
