I've been wanting to try and make a roguelike module for DC. The 7 day roguelike http://7drl.org/ challenge is coming up in early March, so that'd be as good a time as any for me to attempt it, if my DC skills have gotten sharp enough by then (and that's a big IF). I don't know if I'm eligible for either challenge, but you can count me in to this one if you like.

Two more people added to the total.  Looks like it's shaping up to be quite the challenge.  If everyone delivers a module, it will give the community an influx of modules to play.

Given that my usual rate of production is 6 months of continuous daily effort to make a mod that takes 4 hours to play, I expect my entry will only take 10 minutes to play through.

That could also be a good thing, lots of short mods for people with busy schedules.

I'm willing to give this a try. I don't expect to be able to make anything great in that time, but I guess that's the point. Consider me a plus one.

My thoughts, too, Nol.  I won't be cranking out a conversion of Deserts of Desolation, but maybe a short game that takes a short time to play might be better at this point...

I might be interested, but I am unsure whether it would be better to do in FRUA or DC.

Namely, UASHELL hasn't been playing nicely with me as of late, and DC might have some unexpected game-breaking bugs that might take up much of the week time just to get fixed.

The module isn't required to have hacks of any kind.  I've always said I would rather play a really good vanilla module than a really terrible hacked one.

I [also] prefer a non-hacked 'vanilla' version.

Just to confirm in case I was not specific enough, I will get in on this as well. Will do 1 week challenge with the unhacked FRUA setup (is working fine thru dosbox on chromebook).

1 week should be doable...

Just noticed this thread, a bit late to the party. At this point, I'm not ready to commit to a certain date, as it's always hard for me to tell in advance how busy I'd be with work during a given week in the future. But seeing that it isn't a contest, I guess I could challenge myself at any time to follow the same rules you set up for this, whenever I'm ready. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing your results!  :)

For those who are taking part in the challenge, I hope your early days of planning are going well.

This challenge really has two parts.  The preparation part should not be overlooked.  Just as the challenge itself will push you to create quickly, the prep build time will help you be creative outside the engine and give you a new way to approach designing (for those of us who tend to just jump into the design and create as we go...I'm guilty of this).

If you're curious what you could be doing while waiting for the challenge to start, here is a list of things that you can do to make your life easier in preparation for the challenge:

- Sketch out your story.
- Draw your map ideas on paper.
- Assemble or create the artwork you will need.
- Gather the hacks (if any) that you want to use.
- Write out your intro or some of your dialogue in a word processor.
- Think about the combat encounters you might have.
- Write out your main quest line, and some side quests.
- Consider new ways to use FRUA or DC.
- Decide if your adventure will be multi-character or single-character
- Play the Gold-Box games or other FRUA/DC games for inspiration!
- Do nothing at all.  (It's an option for those that want it).

Can't wait to start!

If this is still open to submissions, I would give this a go as well.
