Playing Old Designs
« on: May 15, 2016, 02:36:30 PM »
There are several old DC designs available for download.  Since I had never played any of them, I thought I'd try some of them out.  Unfortunately, I cannot get any of them to run, no matter what version of DC was used to create it.  I don't have any issues running current DC games that I create myself, but the old ones always give error messages about not being able to find the config.txt or bass.dll or some other file.  Even when I move the files, it still never finds them.

Is there some reason why older DC adventures can't be played anymore?  Am I the only one this happens to?

If you point me to a particular one, I will download
it and see how to make it work.

It is conceivable that Bill Gates has made old executables
and games obsolete.  He has done many things to me
that I am unhappy about.  Last night he erased about
two hours of detailed editing when he rebooted my machine
to update windoze 10.   >:(

Here's one, called "In the Service of Aldorf":

Also, not to nitpick, but Bill Gates left Microsoft in 2008.  The guy you're mad at is Satya Nadella, who replaced Steve Ballmer.

No, no; It is Bill Gates. He has it out for Paul. Bill told me himself when he was looking over my shoulder and whispering for me to update my 5 year-old laptop from Windows 7 to Win 10, for free, because 111 million other have done so, and don't I want to pay him a few bucks to play ad-free Solitaire. *nod nod*

I stand corrected.  I had no idea Bill Gates had it out for Paul.

Some of the older designs might work well if you use D3D Windower or a similar program.
