Any type of quest or no quest is fine by me, so long as the story and characters are engaging.

I agreed that's what I voted for.

As far as quests go, as long as they are part of an interesting story and I feel like I'm doing something important, I'm game for just about anything.

The only type of quest I hate is the "escort the npc and make sure he doesn't get a papercut and die" style of quests.

There certainly must be a balance between combat, questing, and story. Let's face it, FRUA is a statistics based game, moreover PnP AD&D is a statistics based game. Part of the fun is becoming more powerful via combat and questing. But there must be a reason behind the numbers for us to care about what they mean, and the reason needs to be at least a bit interesting. Pure hack and slay is not terribly engaging in my opinion. The console based Baulder's Gate games come to mind. I did play through the both of them, but they felt a bit cheap. And I agree with others concerning interactive stories. I'd rather read a book, and there are hundreds of amazing fantasy novels out there to choose from. Balance is the thing!

Good thoughts. Curiously enough though, for some reason I prefer fantasy stories in the form of interactive CRPGs over actual fantasy novels, so I don't really mind 'playing' interactive stories on the computer, as long as they're well told (and include nice pictures  ;D ).
