IceBlink Engine for Android
« on: April 22, 2014, 07:39:10 PM »
I am kind of at a point were I could use some additional eyes on the current build to see if there are major bugs or UI issues. If you happen to have an Android device and would like to help me out, please download and install the following apk file:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/v90wb18b6d175wa/TheRaventhal.apk

Let me know how it works out for you and send screenshots of any issues that you see. Keep in mind that this is still pre-beta so there are still some place holder UI artwork (or lack of), close testing encounter (firebeetles) and "kill" button to quickly go through combat.

The Raventhal is now posted to Google Play Store (may take a bit to show up, propagate across all servers).

Just posted the next IceBlink module, "Lanterna - The Exile", to Google Play. Search for "iceblink" or "raventhal".

Next up is Red Carnival by Karl (yougneil1)...conversion should take a few weeks.

Awesome.  Do you get feedback on how many people download your conversions?  If so, have they been popular among Android users?

The Google Developer Console give you some statistics that are updated once a day. It basically gives you the exact download, uninstall and upgrade count by day, moth, average, and total. Here are the counts:

The Raventhal (as of July 11th): 2253 downloads, 133 votes, 4.02 average score (released on May 23rd)
Lanterna - The Exile (today): 18 downloads, 5 votes, 5.0 average score (released on July 11th)

So it appears that The Raventhal has received over 30 times more downloads on Android (2253) versus PC (74 downloads).

Wow...I didn't expect these games would do better on Android than on PC.  That's...unusual...

Maybe it's because the Google Play Store is a more neatly arranged environment than the Internet, so it's more likely to stumble upon IceBlink just by searching for games in the Google Play Store, compared to typing "games" into Google? Or maybe because on the PC there are more AAA games (and even high quality freeware games) competing for your time?

From the screenshots I gather this is primarily meant for smartphones? Would the games run on a tablet, too?

I agree with Olivier's assessment.

IceBlink Android does work perfectly fine on a tablet. I actually prefer to play and test on my galaxy tab 3 8.0. Not all RPG engines would translate well to the mobile environment, but IceBlink (and probably DC) works really well and feels great on a tablet (like curling up with a good book on the couch).

So I guess "Red Carnival by Karl (yougneil1)...conversion should take a few weeks" was a bit of an over estimate as I am almost done with the conversion. I may even have it ready for this weekend. Just need to fully test and make any adjustments as needed. It will be FREE.

Posted Red Carnival:

May take a bit to populate through all servers world wide so may not show up right away.

For the PC, go to here and download the engine and toolset 1.01 beta then whatever modules and tokens+portraits:

For Kindle Fire HD:
do you have access to Google Play for installing on Kindle? If not, then try installing this apk:
