Scaled-down Pool of Radiance font
« on: June 10, 2011, 05:08:18 PM »
Inspired by this thread, here's the famous font from Pool of Radiance (and the other classic EGA GoldBox games), albeit shrunken by one pixel in height to improve legibility.

Judge for yourself if the attempt was successful.

To use the font in a game, rename the file to GAME.FON and drop it into a DSN folder.

Well done!  I'd prefer this font to default UA's.   :)

The font looks great Ben. Thanks!

My only possible suggestion is that it might look slightly better if the whole thing were moved down by one pixel so that the text appeared nearer the bottom of buttons rather than the top?

In case people would like to see what it looks like without having to run it in FRUA, here is a screenshot:

Thanks hans and steve!  :)

Hey steve, I think I recognize that game.  ;D

I could try that. The thing is, I haven't found an option to easily copy and move chunks of characters in FEditor, so it would require a lot of work to move all the characters down one pixel (shortening them by one pixel was a little easier).

The font is now available on the UA file archive, along with the Ghosts 'N Goblins font I made earlier.

I've been using the font while designing my newest design, and I have to say it's pretty wonderful if you're looking for an "old school" font.  And it's a hell of a lot easier to read than the standard POR font.  Great work.

Thanks, Ben.  :)

I'm working on an all-new custom font for my Island mod - I hope that one will be easy to read as well.

Obviously, I want to credit you for your work.  What name do you want to be credited under?  Your forum name?

Normally yes, but since my real name is already out there (in the credits for "The Sect") you could also use that name.

I finally got around to doing this. Attached is basically the same font, but moved one pixel lower. I have also modified a few of the symbols (hopefully an improvement).

And a screenshot to show how it looks in FRUA.
