Lands of Adventure - An EGA Module
« on: June 06, 2011, 02:49:40 PM »
A very long time ago, I tried to create an EGA style gold-box module (you can still find it in the "Unfinished" designs directory).  I gave up on the idea until after I saw the wonderful "Kill the Heroes of Phlan," which captured the style I wanted.  Hans was gracious enough to allow me to use his module as an art base to design around, and I have found it a lot of fun to include a lot of converted EGA work of my own since I've started.

So, being as I am making great progress and will be asking for play-testers in the very near future, I thought it was time to reveal some information about the module.

It's called "Lands of Adventure," and I like to think of it as a free-wheeling Gold-Box module that lets you explore in any direction you like.   I suppose that has a lot to do with my replaying of the original "Pool of Radiance" a few weeks ago.

What can you expect?

* Gold-Box style action and artwork
* Lots of choices and side quests
* An easy to follow storyline

Additionally: This is not a trilogy.  My track record for finishing trilogies has been unfortunate and non-existent.  Like many designers, I start out with the best of intentions and end up too busy to follow up.  I have time this Summer before I go back to school to do one big adventure, and this will be that adventure.  No promised sequels and no unfinished storylines.  When you play this, it will stand alone.

Well, what's a preview without a few pictures, eh?  Enjoy:

This looks and sounds very nice!  :)

Looking forward to it.

Is this the module you need the TSF walls for?

It looks like my favorite type of game!
Some days it just doesn't pay to gnaw through the straps.

One thing I might suggest: Have you tried using the original Pool of Radiance font?

It could enhance the "old school" feel even more.

I think I might have used the original POR font for "Night of the Basilisk."  In the end, I find it harder to read than a clearer font.  I think I'd rather use the font from the Savage Frontier games.  But, I may give it a swing and see if I like it.

I agree that the readability of the TSF font is much better.

But the POR font brings back more nostalgic memories.  ;)

Did anybody ever shrink down the POR font (by one pixel in height)?  That size difference plays a major role in the readability of fonts like TSF.

No, but it could be a good idea.

Now, if someone does that, I might be on board with putting it to use.  But, it's not something I'm going to have time to do.

I'm still not convinced.  I think I like the "Treasures of the Savage Frontiers" font better than the "Pool of Radiance" font.  Here are some screenshots of the mod using the POR font.  Compare them to the others at the top of the page and tell me what you think.
